About Fruits
Botanically, a fruit is the seed-bearing part of a flowering plant, which is why avocado, and even the tomato, qualify while rhubarb does not. The names on this card cross several plant families: peach, plum, cherry and apricot are all stone fruits from the same genus, while raspberry and blackberry are clusters of tiny fruitlets rather than single berries. Watermelon, cantaloupe and honeydew grow on vines in the gourd family, alongside cucumbers and squash.
Reach for this card when a class or family group is talking about food groups, plant parts, or where produce comes from, and you want everyone playing at once.
