About Graduation
Graduation ceremonies borrow heavily from medieval universities, where scholars wore long robes and hoods against cold stone halls. The square mortarboard and its swinging tassel came later, and many American schools mark the moment a class becomes graduates by moving the tassel from one side of the cap to the other. Processions often march to Edward Elgar's "Pomp and Circumstance." Alma mater is Latin for nourishing mother. This card tracks the ceremony from folding chairs and speeches through the cap toss to the sheet cake.
Reach for this at a graduation party or an end-of-year classroom celebration, when guests need something to watch for during the long stretch of names.
