About Autumn
Autumn begins at the equinox in late September, when shorter days shut down the green pigment in leaves and the yellows and oranges already present in them finally show. Cold nights and the first frost push the color along. Farms bring in squash, apples and corn, and the harvest moon (the full moon nearest the equinox) rises soon after sunset for several evenings running. This card gathers the season's sights: cornstalks, geese overhead, woodpiles, hot cocoa.
Reach for this at a fall festival, a classroom party in October, or a rainy afternoon when a group needs something to play together.
