About Winter
Winter in the Northern Hemisphere begins near December 21, the shortest day of the year, and the cold that follows reshapes everything outside the window. Water vapor freezes into six-sided snowflakes, ponds harden from the surface down, and deciduous trees stand bare while evergreens keep their needles. People adapt with layers: wool socks, parkas, earmuffs. Northern cardinals stay put all winter, their red feathers easy to spot against snow. This card gathers the season's gear, weather, and wildlife.
A classroom teacher or family activity leader reaches for this on a snowy afternoon or during a December indoor recess.
