About Nature
Landscapes on this page were shaped by water and time. A canyon is carved by a river cutting downward through rock, while a valley widens as ice and runoff wear away its sides. A marsh holds shallow water and grasses rather than trees, and a meadow stays open because grazing or poor soil keeps the forest out. Smaller entries belong to the same systems: an acorn is the seed of an oak, and ferns reproduce by spores instead of flowers.
Reach for this before a hike, a park visit, or a lesson on landforms and habitats.
