About Recycling
Recycling turns used material back into raw material. An aluminum can may return to a shelf as another can, and glass can be melted and reformed many times over without losing quality. Much of the work happens before the truck arrives: sorting at the curbside keeps food residue and the wrong plastics out of the stream, since a contaminated load can end up in a landfill anyway. Compost handles what recycling cannot, and the words here follow that path from bin to bale.
Reach for this sheet during an earth science or community unit, or the week your class starts a classroom collection bin.
