About Fall
Fall begins at the equinox in late September, when day and night run nearly equal and the sun's angle drops fast in the north. Leaves turn because trees stop making chlorophyll, letting yellow and orange pigments already in the leaf show through, while sugars trapped in maples can push them red. Squirrels bury acorns they will not all recover, planting oaks by accident. Geese head south, and the harvest moon rises close to sunset for several nights running.
Reach for this card at an October classroom party, a harvest festival table, or a family gathering waiting on the pie.
