About Grammar

English grammar sorts words into eight traditional parts of speech, from the workhorse noun and verb to the interjection, which stands outside a sentence and takes an exclamation point. Punctuation does separate work: the comma separates, the semicolon joins two complete thoughts, and the apostrophe marks both possession and contraction. Every complete sentence needs a subject and a predicate. This card gathers those labels, along with clause, phrase, plural, and the tenses, so you can call them and mark them.

A language arts teacher reaches for this during a parts of speech or punctuation review, when a class needs the terms recalled quickly rather than copied again.
