About Multiplication
Multiplication is repeated addition given a shortcut, and the vocabulary on this card tracks how students learn it. Early on come equal groups, arrays with their rows and columns, and skip counting. Later come the properties: the commutative rule says 3 x 8 and 8 x 3 land on the same product, while the zero property sends every fact to zero. Strategies like the area model, the box method, and lattice multiplication break big numbers into parts small enough to handle mentally.
