About Olympics

The ancient Olympic Games were held at Olympia in Greece, where footraces and the discus throw drew competitors from across the Greek world. The modern Games began in Athens in 1896, and the five interlocking rings, chosen to stand for the inhabited continents, came later. Events hidden here range from track contests like the relay and the hurdles to archery, fencing, and rowing, along with the torch, the podium, the anthem, and the three medal colors awarded at every closing ceremony.

Reach for this sheet during a Summer Games broadcast, or in a classroom studying ancient Greece or world geography.
