About Hiking

A hiking trail gives up its details slowly: paint blazes on tree trunks marking the route, deer tracks pressed into mud near a stream crossing, ferns filling the shade under older trees. The squares here cover what walkers actually carry (map, compass, water bottle, rain jacket) alongside what the woods supply on their own, from anthills and spider webs to a waterfall or a long mountain view. Blazes and signposts exist because trails branch, and a missed turn adds miles.

Hand this to a family or a scout group heading out on a day hike, to give younger walkers something to watch for between the trailhead and the summit.
