About Cinco De Mayo
On May 5, 1862, Mexican forces under General Ignacio Zaragoza defeated a larger French army at Puebla. The victory did not end the war, but it became the date Mexico marks each year, most visibly in Puebla City itself with military parades and battle reenactments. The squares here reach past the battlefield: the dahlia is Mexico's national flower, the guitarron anchors a mariachi ensemble, and papel picado is cut from tissue paper by hand.
Reach for this card when a class or community group is marking the fifth of May and you want the history, the music and the crafts named out loud.
