About Swimming
Competitive swimming uses four strokes, and three of them show up here: freestyle, backstroke and butterfly, the last requiring both arms to recover over the water at the same time. A racing pool is divided by floating lane lines that break up waves, and a relay team of four swimmers touches the wall in turn. Around the deck sit the practical things: a kickboard for drills, chlorine to keep the water clean, a lifeguard watching, a stopwatch running.
Reach for this during a swim unit, a summer lesson week, or the days before a school meet.
