About Dogs
Dogs descend from wolves and have lived alongside people for thousands of years, longer than any other domesticated animal. Their sense of smell is their strongest tool: a dog reads a fence post the way you read a page. Breeds were shaped for work, not looks. Beagles trail rabbits by scent, collies move sheep with stares and quick footwork, and terriers were bred small and bold enough to follow prey underground. A wagging tail signals arousal, not always friendliness.
Reach for this in a classroom unit on animals and their care, or at home with a child counting the days until a puppy arrives.
