About Christmas

Christmas falls on December 25 and blends church tradition with customs gathered over centuries. The decorated evergreen tree spread from German practice into English and American homes in the 1800s, while carols were once sung door to door long before they reached the radio. The nutcracker owes its fame partly to Tchaikovsky's ballet, first performed in 1892. Clues here reach from the nativity story to stockings, sleighs, and the workshop at the North Pole.

Reach for this in the last weeks of the term, when a class or a family gathering needs something quieter than wrapping paper and glue.
