About Fathers Day

Father's Day falls on the third Sunday in June in the United States, a date that took decades to stick. Sonora Smart Dodd promoted the idea in Spokane, Washington, in 1910, honoring her father, a Civil War veteran who raised six children alone. Congress resisted for years before President Nixon signed it into law in 1972. The traditions that grew up around it show here: a necktie, a mug, a toolbox, and someone at the grill.

Reach for this in early June, when a class or family is making cards and thinking about the dads, stepdads, grandpas, and coaches they want to thank.
