About Recycling

Aluminum is the star performer of the recycling stream: a can melted down and rerolled can be back on a store shelf in a matter of weeks, and remelting it uses a small fraction of the energy needed to smelt new metal from ore. Glass and steel hold up similarly well, while paper fibers shorten each time around and eventually end up in products like cardboard. Sorting matters because one greasy container can spoil a whole bale.

Reach for this in a science or environmental studies class working through waste, materials, and what happens after the truck pulls away.
