About Safety

Safety equipment mostly works by making a bad moment survivable: a helmet spreads the force of an impact, a life vest keeps a face above water, a smoke alarm wakes a household while there is still time to reach the exit. Some of it is habit rather than hardware, like checking both ways at a crosswalk or holding a handrail on stairs. Reflectors do their job by returning headlight beams straight back toward the driver.

A useful page for elementary teachers running a fire drill week or a bike safety unit, and for scout leaders covering first aid basics.
