About Shapes

Shapes get named by their sides and corners: a pentagon has five sides, a hexagon six, an octagon eight, which is why stop signs are easy to recognize even from behind. Flat shapes like the circle, square, and triangle sit on the page, while the cube, sphere, cone, cylinder, and pyramid take up space and can be held. This crossword mixes both kinds, along with the star, heart, and diamond that show up on cards and flags.

Reach for this when a class or a young solver is learning geometry vocabulary and needs the names to stick.
