About Superheroes
Superheroes began on the printed page: Superman debuted in Action Comics in 1938, Batman followed a year later in Detective Comics, and Wonder Woman arrived in 1941. The formula settled quickly, and the clues here trace it: a secret base, a costume, a sidekick who asks the questions readers are thinking, and a villain who keeps coming back. Thor borrows a name from Norse myth. Gotham City is Batman's invented home, borrowed from an old nickname for New York.
Reach for this when a comics unit, a superhero-themed reading week, or a rainy indoor recess needs something on paper.
