About Veterans Day

The fighting of World War I stopped on November 11, 1918, at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, and the United States marked the date as Armistice Day. In 1954 Congress changed the name to Veterans Day so the holiday would honor everyone who has served in the armed forces, not just one war's survivors. It differs from Memorial Day, which remembers those who died. Ceremonies often end with a bugler sounding Taps and a wreath laid in silence.

A teacher or family filling the week before November 11 with something more substantial than a coloring page.
