About April Fools

April Fools' Day falls on the first of April, and its customs show up across many countries: in France, a paper fish taped to someone's back earns the victim the name poisson d'avril. Newspapers and broadcasters have joined in for well over a century, running straight-faced stories about impossible things and printing the correction the next day. The tradition rewards a light touch, since the best hoaxes are the ones people repeat before checking. Jesters and clowns on this page point back to much older professional foolery.

A teacher planning a first-of-April warm-up, or anyone filling a spring activity folder for early finishers.
