About Christmas
Christmas on December 25 gathers customs from many centuries and countries. The poinsettia arrived from Mexico in the 1820s, brought north by diplomat Joel Poinsett. Nutcracker figures carved as soldiers and kings came from the Erzgebirge mountains of Germany, and Tchaikovsky's ballet later carried them worldwide. Mistletoe grows as a parasite on oak and apple branches, and caroling once meant dancing in a ring. This grid holds seventeen terms from those traditions, including tinsel, chimney, and gingerbread.
Reach for this sheet in the last weeks of December, when a class party, a family gathering, or a long wait needs something quiet on the table.
