About Halloween

Halloween falls on October 31, the night before All Saints' Day, and it carries traces of the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, which marked the end of the harvest and the start of winter. Irish and Scottish immigrants brought the customs to North America, where the carved turnip gave way to the pumpkin, a squash native to the Americas and far easier to hollow out. Trick-or-treating spread widely across the United States in the 1930s and 1940s.

Reach for this in late October, when a class or a family gathering needs something to do between the carving and the candy.
