About Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving falls on the fourth Thursday of November, a date Abraham Lincoln set in 1863 during the Civil War. The 1621 harvest gathering at Plymouth included roughly ninety Wampanoag men alongside the English colonists, and venison mattered more than turkey. Many dishes on this grid arrived later: canned cranberry sauce in 1912, green bean casserole in 1955. Look for the crops, the cooks, the parade, and the leftovers that follow.

Reach for this in a November classroom or at the table while the oven finishes its work.
