About Bees
A honey bee colony runs on division of labor: one queen laying eggs, drones whose job is mating, and thousands of workers who forage, build comb from wax they secrete, feed larvae and guard the entrance. Foragers carry nectar in a special stomach and pack pollen onto their hind legs, then share directions to good flowers through a waggling dance. Beekeepers open hives calmly, using a smoker to keep the colony settled while they check the frames.
Reach for this during a unit on pollinators, insect life cycles, or where food comes from.
