About Human Body

An adult skeleton holds 206 bones, and the femur, running from hip to knee, is the longest of them. The skull protects the brain, which runs on roughly a fifth of the body's oxygen supply despite its modest weight. Arteries carry blood away from the heart while nerves carry signals in both directions at remarkable speed. Joints like the elbow, ankle, wrist and shoulder each move in their own limited set of directions, which is why a dislocated shoulder is so much more common than a dislocated ankle.

Reach for this during a unit on anatomy or body systems, when students need the vocabulary to stick before the labeling test.
