About Weather
Weather happens in the troposphere, the lowest layer of the atmosphere, where heat, moisture and air pressure keep rearranging themselves. A barometer measures that pressure, and falling pressure often means a storm is coming. Lightning heats the air around it so fast that the air expands with a bang, which is thunder arriving a few seconds later. Hail grows in layers inside towering storm clouds, while a rainbow needs sunlight behind you and raindrops ahead.
Reach for this during a science unit on the water cycle and storms, or on a rainy indoor recess when the subject is right outside the window.
