About Multiplication
Multiplication is repeated addition organized into shape: four groups of six become an array with four rows and six columns, and the product is the count of everything inside. That rectangle explains why the area of a room equals length times width, and why square numbers (1, 4, 9, 16) really do form squares when you draw them. Factors are the numbers you start with; multiples are where any one factor lands as you skip count upward.
A third or fourth grader drilling times tables, or anyone reviewing the vocabulary that shows up in word problems about rows, groups, and area.
