About Presidents Day

Presidents Day falls on the third Monday in February, a federal holiday that grew out of the observance of George Washington's birthday. Many states fold Abraham Lincoln, born the same month, into the same day. The names on this grid stretch from the early republic through the twentieth century, and the surrounding words point to the machinery of the office itself: the ballot that fills it, the Capitol where Congress meets, the memorials built afterward, and the parades and speeches that mark the date.

Reach for this sheet in a February classroom or library corner, alongside a lesson on the presidency and how Americans choose their leaders.
