About Ramadan

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, and because that calendar runs shorter than the solar year, it shifts about eleven days earlier each year, moving through every season over time. Muslims who fast abstain from food and drink from dawn until sunset, rising early for suhoor and breaking the fast at iftar, often with dates and water. The month emphasizes prayer, reading the Quran, and giving to those in need, and it closes with the festival of Eid al-Fitr.
