About Veterans Day
Veterans Day falls on November 11, the date fighting stopped on the Western Front in 1918. First called Armistice Day, it was renamed in 1954 to honor everyone who has served in the U.S. armed forces, living and deceased alike, which sets it apart from Memorial Day in May. Ceremonies often include a wreath laid at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington, a bugler sounding Taps, and red poppies worn on coats.
Reach for this sheet in early November, when a class or a family is talking about why the eleventh is marked on the calendar.
