About Birds
Birds are the only living animals with feathers, and the group stretches from the ostrich, too heavy to leave the ground, to hummingbirds that beat their wings fast enough to hover in place. Some clues here point to body parts built for a job: a talon that grips, a beak shaped by diet, plumage that hides or advertises. Others cover behavior and place, including seasonal migration, nest building, and the aviary where people keep birds under one roof.
Reach for this during a unit on animal classification or bird watching, or after a walk when a cardinal or woodpecker turns up in the notes.
