About Insects
Insects wear their skeletons on the outside and carry six legs on a body split into head, thorax, and abdomen. Beetles alone account for more named species than any other group of animals. A firefly's glow comes from a chemical reaction in its abdomen, a male cricket chirps by scraping one wing against the other, and a butterfly rebuilds itself almost entirely inside its chrysalis. Antennae do the smelling. Fill the grid, then go look at what is walking across the sidewalk.
Reach for this during an insect or life cycle unit, or on any afternoon when a bug collection has taken over the kitchen table.
