About Ocean Animals
The ocean holds animals built on wildly different plans. An octopus has three hearts and blue blood, and can squeeze through any gap larger than its beak. A narwhal's tusk is really a spiraled tooth, grown through the upper lip. Coral looks like stone but is a colony of tiny animals related to jellyfish. Sea otters wrap themselves in kelp so they don't drift while sleeping. These clues cover mammals, fish, reptiles and invertebrates that share the same salt water.
Reach for this during a marine biology or habitats unit, or before a class trip to an aquarium.
