About Zoo Animals
Modern zoos do more than display animals: many run breeding programs for species that no longer survive well in the wild, and keepers spend much of the day on enrichment, hiding food or scattering scents so animals forage and problem-solve. The clues here cover residents from several continents, including the Komodo dragon of Indonesia and the meerkat, which takes turns standing sentry while the group digs. Habitat design matters too, since a good enclosure copies climate, terrain and climbing space.
Reach for this sheet before or after a class trip to the zoo, when students are naming what they saw.
