About Fall
Fall begins at the equinox in late September, when day and night run close to equal length. As sunlight shortens, trees stop making chlorophyll, and the yellow and orange pigments already in their leaves show through; maples add red tones of their own. The season's work shows up in the word list: cranberry growers flood their bogs so the fruit floats to the surface, oaks drop acorns by the thousand, and orchards press apples into cider before the first hard frost.
Reach for this sheet in September or October, when a class or a family wants something seasonal to work through at a table.
